Big things are wrapping up in South Huntsville, as the Sandra Moon Community Complex gets close to opening.

Curious what’s inside?

The refurbished auditorium will become a 600-seat performing arts center for community plays and concerts. and a 300-person event center is taking shape in the old lunchroom.

The recreation side adds refreshed gyms, a fitness center, an indoor walking path, a multimedia and e-gaming space, and an adaptive recreation area with a sensory room.

Burritt has two new residents, and they need names. The historic Round Top Mountain site just welcomed two female Gulf Coast sheep, a rare breed believed to descend from Spanish sheep brought to the southeast United States in the 1500s.

Now Burritt is asking the public to pick a name pair. The finalists are DeeDee & Ines, Carmen & Pilar, Clara & Blanca, and Rosemary & Alys.

🏛 Huntsville’s TIF 9 District Officially Moving Forward

The Madison County Commission signed off on TIF 9, the final green light for a downtown investment plan the City Council had already approved.

If you’re like me and don’t know how a TIF works, let me explain. It doesn't raise your taxes. The city borrows money now for infrastructure inside the district and repays it over time using extra property tax revenue from new development there.

TIF 9 is expected to fund roughly $200 million toward a Von Braun Center expansion and another $20 million for a North Huntsville Beltline Greenway, a new Mill Creek Park, Lowe Avenue upgrades, and renovations to the former federal courthouse.
