Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle Gives State of the City Address
Mayor Tommy Battle gave his 16th State of the City address earlier this week, comparing Huntsvilleâs progress to a basketball team advancing to the Sweet 16 in a major tournament.
Before he looked ahead to the future, Mayor Battle took a few moments to reflect on the last 16 years.
Since taking office in 2008, the cityâs median household income has increased by 74%, and its gross domestic product has surged 79%, topping $38 billion.
Mayor Battle also highlighted improvements to the cityâs infrastructure, with the construction of many new roads, parks, and recreation facilities.
Looking ahead, he shared his vision for further economic growth and desire to see Huntsville emerge as a global leader in innovation.
Mayor Battle also announced a partnership with Huntsville Utilities to build a 200-megawatt solar power plant on 800 acres near the Tennessee River.
If youâd like to read more of his comments, weâve put together a more detailed recap on our website.
