Council Member Michelle Watkins presented a resolution honoring the 10th Cavalry Hill Buffalo Soldiers American Legion Post 351 for over 60 years of service to the Huntsville community.

The post was formed in 1961 after nearly 300 Black veterans from Huntsville, Madison County, and surrounding areas united to establish an American Legion post following denial of equal access to existing American Legion facilities.

In 2024, the membership voted to rename the post to honor the historic legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers who once camped in North Huntsville.

Watkins tied the presentation to her own history growing up going to Cavalry Hill Elementary School, saying "no one ever told us why the school's named Cavalry Hill" and stressing the importance of teaching local history.

The council approved a $69,000 modification to the city's agreement with Rosales + Partners to complete a federal peer review of the Skybridge design plans. Davis said this should be the final modification.
