🎨 Panoply Weekend

Panoply weekend has arrived, plus a new historical tour at Maple Hill Cemetery and a new bakery is now open in Madison!

Happy Friday!

Tomorrow marks the 1-year anniversary of the Huntsville Explorer newsletter. It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already.

I sent the first newsletter to 775 people, and I am sending today’s newsletter to 13,000 people. I can only imagine where we will be in another year.

Whether you’ve been reading this newsletter since the very beginning or joined us later on, I’m glad you’re here!

Alrighty, enough of the sappy stuff! I’ve got 4 tickets to the Alabama Plant Show at the VBC on May 4 to give away.

I’ll be sending 2 tickets to 2 winners. This giveaway is open to everyone, and you can enter for free here.

I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday.

Let’s get to it!

👨‍🚀 Blast Off

🎨 Everything You Need to Know for Panoply Weekend

Panoply returns to Big Spring Park this weekend (April 25–27), bringing three full days of art, music, food, and family fun!

This year, over 100 artists will showcase paintings, sculptures, and more in the Art Marketplace. Browse one-of-a-kind creations from festival veterans and meet over 40 new vendors!

This year’s festival will also feature live music from 20+ local artists. There will be performers from all genres, including jazz, rock, R&B, blues, pop, and more!

If you’ve never been to Panoply, the festival is family-friendly, and there will be plenty of STEAM fun and interactive booths with hands-on activities.

There will also be food trucks on-site offering local flavors.

Here’s a quick look at the schedule:

  • Friday, April 25: 5–9 PM

  • Saturday, April 26: 10 AM–9 PM

  • Sunday, April 27: 11 AM–6 PM

Tickets are $15 for a day pass or $20 for a weekend pass (online only before 4 PM Friday). Kids 12 and under get in free!

The team at Arts Huntsville has put together a pretty handy resource that includes FAQs, links to buy tickets, and a Festival Map. You can find it here.

🚀 Taking Flight

🪦 A New Local History Tour

The creators of the Huntsville Ghost Walk have announced a new history tour at Maple Hill Cemetery called the Civil War Bones Tours.

The tour will share stories of Union and Confederate soldiers buried at Maple Hill. Their true stories involve spies, escapes, hidden gold, and Huntsville locals who lived through the war.

Highlights include figures connected to Lincoln, Fort Sumter, and the Immortal 600. The walking tour begins at the Unknown Confederates plot near Wells Avenue and is a powerful way to explore local Civil War history.

The tours take place every Sunday in April and May at 2 PM and last around 90 minutes. Tickets are $15 per person. More info about the tours and tickets can be found here.

📚 Independent Bookstore Day

This Saturday (April 26) is Independent Bookstore Day, and we want to shout out two of our favorite local bookstores.

The Snail on the Wall (816 Wellman Avenue) will be celebrating with hidden Golden Tickets that can be redeemed for free audiobooks for a year, drawings, giveaways, and more. Drop in anytime between 10 AM-5 PM.

The Bookwyrm (7914 Memorial Pkwy SW Ste. B6) is also celebrating with flash giveaways and fun bookish surprises. Drop in anytime between 10 AM-6 PM.

Independent Bookstore Day is the perfect time to shop local and find your next great read!

🍞 New Bakery Now Open in Madison

HeartBaker Bakery is bringing fresh-baked love to Madison! This new spot blends Hispanic and Italian traditions with Southern flair.

We haven’t been able to stop by yet, but their treats look SO GOOD. They’ve got croissants, cookies, empanadas, and breads like sourdough and ciabatta. Their condensed milk pie and authentic cortado look amazing too.

All items are to-go for now, but indoor seating and a kids’ play area may be coming soon.

The owner’s name is Lucia Lissandrelli. Her daughter was born with Congenital Heart Disease, and she is making it her mission to raise awareness for CHD through HeartBaker Bakery. You can learn more about Lucia’s story here.

We are planning to drop in for a visit soon, and you should too!
