🏆 Proclamations & Recognitions

The city council meeting kicked off with a round of proclamations and special recognitions celebrating some incredible people in our community.

  • Women in Sports Day: April 9 was declared Women in Sports Day, honoring the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs (first-ever SWAC regular season championship) and the UAH Chargers (program-record 32 wins and first NCAA Division II Final Four appearance). Kayla Walker was recognized as SWAC and HBCU National Player of the Year.

  • Amaya Wells: Councilmember Michelle Watkins honored Amaya Wells, a senior at Mae Jemison High School, for her dominance in track and field. She's the reigning outdoor state champ in the 100m hurdles, a two-time indoor state champ, an All-American, and currently ranked #1 in Alabama across all classifications in both the 100m and 300m hurdles.

  • Military Child Month: Mayor Battle proclaimed April as Military Child Month, recognizing the resilience of military children who often move 6 to 8 times during their K-12 years.

🦅 Huntsville Salutes America's 250th

The council heard a presentation from the Huntsville Salutes America's 250th Committee, led by Sally Warden, on the city's plans to celebrate the nation's semi-quincentennial.
