🚂 North Alabama Railroad Museum Turns 60

Council Member Michelle Watkins presented a resolution recognizing the North Alabama Railroad Museum on its 60th anniversary.

Founded in Tuscumbia in July 1966 and relocated to 694 Chase Road in Huntsville in the 1980s, the museum runs authentic train excursions on 5 miles of restored rail line.

Museum president Hilbert Hilgartner accepted, noting the museum's collection includes a railway post office car, a Korean War military hospital car, a Baldwin locomotive, a 1949 Pullman sleeper coach, and a 1945 locomotive originally built for the U.S. Army.

Their youngest excursion car is 77 years old!

For those interested, the next excursions are July 25 and August 1. Over 90% of the museum's budget comes from ticket sales.

🏗️ TIF 9 Officially Approved

After being teed up back in April and previewed at multiple meetings, the council voted to name, create, and establish Tax Increment Financing District 9 and adopt its project plan.

Starting this past Friday, the legal description of the district goes to the Madison County tax assessor, and the district officially starts capturing new tax revenue from growth inside its boundary.

A quick refresher: TIF 9 is not a tax increase.
