🏀 The John Hunt Park Recreation Center is Officially Open
Mayor Battle has cut the ribbon on the new John Hunt Park Recreation Center, and the doors are now open to the public!
The 60,850-square-foot facility packs in a lot. Inside, you'll find a gym that converts into four high school basketball courts or eight volleyball courts, along with a fitness room, multi-purpose rooms, and concessions.
Outside, there's a covered, lit structure housing 24 competitive pickleball courts plus one elite play court.
Programming kicks off with open play basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, with tournament hosting on the horizon.
You can find the new center at 3035 Leeman Ferry Rd., tucked into 8½ acres on the north end of John Hunt Park.

🎲 Huntsville Is Getting Its Own Monopoly Board
The Rocket City is rolling the dice on its own Monopoly board. Top Trumps USA announced this week that Monopoly: Huntsville Edition will hit shelves in March 2027!
The locally-themed board will swap Boardwalk and Park Place for spots like the Botanical Garden, The Orion Amphitheater, and U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
Community Chest and Chance cards will come with local flavor too. One sample card: "You're stuck in I-565 traffic. Move back four spaces."
Here's the fun part: residents get to help shape the board. Send in your suggestions for must-include spots and inside jokes!
🏟 A Major Sports Complex Could Land Just Down I-65
A new mixed-use development is proposed for the I-65 Huntsville-Decatur interchange, anchored by a southeast regional sports complex on Hwy. 20.
The sports complex would feature baseball and softball diamonds, flat fields for soccer, flag football, and lacrosse, plus a future indoor facility. Surrounding it would be retail, residential, hotel and hospitality, and family entertainment.
Officials are pitching it as a regional draw for tournaments and visitors. More details are expected in the coming months!
🪿 The Edgewater Geese Are Officially Safe
Good news for our feathered Madison neighbors: the geese at Lady Ann Lake are safe!
If you missed the drama, the Edgewater Owners Association Board voted last week to bring in the USDA to euthanize the neighborhood's geese, citing sanitation and lake health.
Residents (and locals) flooded the board with emails, phone calls, and conversations pushing back. This week, the board reversed course.
The board will form a new Wildlife and Environmental Impact Subcommittee, who will spend the next year researching humane management options. It looks like the flock lives to honk another day!
