đź’Ą Old City Hall Building Demolished

Video courtesy of WHNT
The old City Hall building at Big Spring Spark was officially demolished on Thursday. Here’s a video of it crumbling to the ground.
The building was used by the city for 60 years before the new city hall building opened in 2024.
With the old building gone, the city plans to expand Big Spring Park by 2.4 acres. Here’s a quick overview of what’s planned:
New event pavilion and rustic playground for kids
ADA-accessible winding path from Church St. to Fountain Circle
Plaza areas with public art, shade, rain gardens, and water features
Terraced walkways connecting Big Spring Park East and West
Improved connectivity between Fountain Circle & Church Street
Debris removal is expected to take four to five months, so the expansion project likely won’t be completed until 2026.

An attempt was made to reschedule it for Sunday, but there were not enough resources and officers available at such short notice. Next year’s parade is already scheduled for March 14, 2026.
