🚀 Space and Rocket Center Celebrates 55 Years

On March 18, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center celebrated 55 years of history by presenting Iris, Margrit, and Peter von Braun with the Founder's Award.

Their father, Dr. Wernher von Braun, was the first director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. He also led the team that built the Saturn V rocket, which sent Apollo astronauts to the Moon.

His work helped make Huntsville the “Rocket City.”

During the ceremony, Margrit von Braun shared how much the center means to her family. “Coming back to Huntsville always feels like home. My parents believed education was essential. It’s amazing to see how the Rocket Center continues to inspire young people.”

Today, the Space and Rocket Center is still a leader in space education, offering Space Camp and interactive exhibits that encourage future astronauts and engineers. After 55 years, Huntsville’s role in space exploration is stronger than ever.
