🌳 Big Spring Park East Expansion

Big Spring Park East is getting a major upgrade! The City of Huntsville has unveiled a new plan to add 2.4 acres to the park and make it more accessible to the community.

The former City Hall building located at 308 Fountain Circle will be removed to add 2.4 acres to the park.

The new space will include plazas and a pavilion. The project will also expand existing green spaces, repair walking paths, and improve lighting.

Construction will begin soon after the old City Hall is demolished, with debris removal taking up to five months. The expansion plans can be found here.

🚨 Rocket City Softball Showcase Schedule Change

The Rocket City Softball Showcase has updated its schedule due to expected bad weather. Initially set to start on Wednesday, the event will now kick off on Tuesday (today) instead.

Games will pause on Wednesday and Thursday due to the cold weather and the chance for snow. The Showcase will then resume on Friday.

This event brings together multiple college softball teams across the region to compete. Tickets start at $20 per day. The new schedule can be found here.

🪁 Soar into Spring Kite Festival

Enjoy a FREE fun-filled day for the whole family at the Soar into Spring Kite Festival! The 13th annual event will be at John Hunt Park (2195 Jaycee Way) on March 1 from 11 AM to 3 PM.

This free event raises awareness for the Ray of Hope Foundation, which supports victims of domestic abuse, assault, and trafficking. Bring your own kite or purchase one on-site, and watch the sky fill with color! Food trucks, live entertainment, and activities for all ages will also be available. Event details can be found here.

🏃 Monte Sano Trail Paving Project

Hiking at Monte Sano is about to get even better! The City of Huntsville is partnering with the Land Trust of North Alabama to pave Toll Gate Trail.

The City will match $500,000 in funds raised by the Land Trust, totaling $1,000,000 in funding for the project. This improvement will boost safety while keeping the area’s natural beauty intact.

The 10-foot-wide pathway will connect the Bankhead Parkway parking lot to the trail into Monte Sano State Park via Fearn Street. Construction details will be released soon. Details about the project can be found here.
